Chris Froome and Alberto Contador Renew Rivalry
Froome returns to action after missing Tirreno-Adriatico earlier in March through illness and will look to build on his overall victory at the Ruta del Sol in February, when he beat Contador into second place.
The pair won't have it all their own way, though, as 2014 winner Joaquim Rodriguez, Alejandro Valverde, Rigoberto Uran, Romain Bardet, Tejay van Garderen and Fabio Aru are among the other riders vying for victory.
Many of the stages contain multiple climbs, but only stage four ends with a summit finish. There is no time for the riders to ease their way into the race, with a sequence of tough climbs punctuating the opening test. Kicking off on the coast in Calella, the race heads inland to tackle the second-category Alt de Vildrau and the first-category Alt del Coll Formic. With the peloton likely splitting, the pace on the descent will be rapid, before a final dig up the third-category Alt de Collsacreu, crested 18.6km from home. All of which should set up an intriguing and reasonably select finish.
