UCI to Trial Mixed-Gender Track Races, Brian Cookson Reveals
Cookson is keen to develop women's cycling, making it part of his
election manifesto in 2013, and encouraging more mixed events is a big
part of International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach's aims
from his "Olympic Agenda 2020" reform package.
Cycling has no tradition of mixed events, but Bach has encouraged the UCI to experiment with relays, with the opening track trials expected to include a mixed team sprint and mixed madison. The possibility of a mixed time trial on the road is also being investigated.
Under-23 riders from the British Cycling programme are expected to be involved in the experimental races at the UCI velodrome in Aigle, Switzerland.
