Black Queens walk over Kenya, with a big test ahead
Ghana has began their Africa Women's Championship on a good note with a 3-1 win over Kenya on Sunday. The Queens exhibited great mental toughness in the game.
The Black Queens conceded an early goal in the 27th minute by Esse Akida (a Kenyan attacker) with a powerful drive.
The Queens came back stronger after a halftime pep talk with Basigi to draw level with a goal from Samira Suleman's header assisted by a cross from Portia Boakye. Captain Elizabeth Addo gave the team the lead from the spot kick after Portia Boakye's cross struck the arm of a Kenyan defender (Ann Aluock).
Samira Sulemans goal was disallowed in the 82nd minute. But with the Queens feet's still on the gas they own a freekick on the edge of the box. Portia Boakye put an icing on the cake of the Black Queens with a scintillating free kick to end the match with a famous win.
Coach Yusif Basigi's side will take on Nigeria who is top of the table after thrashing Mali by 6-0 in their next game on Wednesday.
