A Plea for support and sponsorship - says the Head Coach of the Black Queens
Basigi recently supervised the Black Queens to clinch the Bronze medal at the recent Womens Nation Cup in Cameroon having lead the team to win Gold at the 2015 All African Games in Congo. The former Sekondi Hasaacas trainer has been the head coach for the Black Queens since 2011 after replacing James Kuuku Dadzie.
In an interview with Yusif Basigi said " I have coached the Black Queens for 14 years now and it's always difficult handling the female teams. With my experience over the years I have a way of dealing with these female players because if you are not careful, they won't give you the results you expect; this is to say that handling the Black Queens is more difficult than the Black Stars. Lesbianism happens across the globe in women football teams and I have warned my players to desist from that act. We were given $5,000 across board after winning bronze in Cameroon, although there's about $25,000 arrears yet to be paid by government. We have been promised by the government that after the elections,we will have monies though its too early to complain now. When it comes to motivation given to the females teams it's nothing to write home about but I will blame women advocacy groups. Women in power should be up and doing when it comes to helping the Black Queens.
We just want attention from the new president elect; we should be treated fairly in all aspects. There are some department in the team that's needs some attention, the goalkeeping department isn't exempted there's more to it. Patricia Mantey played very well during the tournament. She's very brave but she also has her shortfalls. She was psychologically down ahead of the tourney but she quickly got over it and moved on. We wanted to win the ultimate but though we couldn't win doesn't mean we failed ".
It's not easy to catch up with the men but Basigi thinks they should be given the needed attention because the womens game really needs sponsorship. "Preparations starts right now for our host and win projections for 2018 Womens Afcon in Ghana. I will be scouting some home based players ahead of the next Afcon because invitation won't be automatic. I think we should strive hard to get sponsors for the womens game and we the coaches will be satisfied. I leave on perdiems when on national assignment. I don't receive monthly salary. This really demotivates me but I have passion for the game " he unveiled to Star Fm.
The Black Queens have also been nominated for CAF women's national team of the year.
