Sakat Lariba win 2015 Accra Milo Marathon in the women’s 42.2km event in 2 hours, 42.12 minutes
2014 Commonwealth Games and African Championships participant Sakat
Lariba blitzed a quality field that included former champions to win her
first Accra Milo Marathon crown last Monday.
Having won the Under-15 event two years ago, Lariba, who is also the reigning national circuit 5000m champion, punched above her weight to win her maiden crown in the women’s 42.2km event in 2 hours, 42.12 minutes.
She was followed in second place by six-time champion, Millicent Boadi in 2 hours 53 minutes while another former champion Elizabeth Bortsor took third in 3:02.12 hours.
Sakat’s achievement is made all the more remarkable given the high level of opposition she came up against.
Her achievement is also bound to enhance her reputation as not only a long distance track athlete, but also a multi-talented athlete with abundant stamina for running marathons.
This concludes a stellar season for the Upper East youngster who made her national bow at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow before gaining some much needed exposure at the CAA Africa Championships.
