Russia beats Egypt to progress to knock out stage

The host nation, Russia has qualified to the 1/16th stage of the competition by beating Egypt 3 goals to 1 with a game in hand. Even with the Egyptian talisman Mo Salah back in the team,  and with the penalty awarded and scored by him to reduce the deficit, the goal wasn't enough to spark an Egyptian comeback.
