GOC to the rescue of National Federations ahead of 2015 All Africa Games
The Ghana Olympic Committee is set to come to the rescue of National
Federations by offering them preparation grants ahead of the 2015 All
Africa Games.
This was revealed by GOC President Prof. Francis Dodoo on Asempa FM’s Fire for Fire programme on Wednesday.
16 national federations have been given between ¢3,000 to ¢10,000 by the National Sports Authority for the first phase of pre-games training which involves non-residential camping. This was the first time in three years that government was releasing money to the national federations.
But several federations have expressed their disapproval with the amounts of money given due to the huge expenditures they are incurring preparing the sportsmen/women for the Games.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Fire for Fire’ programme, GOC President Prof. Francis Dodoo admitted the difficulties federations are currently going through to prepare the athletes for the Congo-Brazzaville Games.
Prof. Dodoo, who also doubles as the President of the Ghana Athletics Association, said that the GOC will in the coming weeks offer assistance to the cash strapped federations with a financial package to aid their preparations towards the 50th Anniversary.
While not giving specific figures, it is hoped the money will help cater for costs associated with the pre-games.
This will not be the first time that the GOC will be giving preparations grants to the national federations to prepare for major international competitions.
The local Olympic governing body distributed $100,000 among the sporting disciplines that took part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
