Floyd Mayweather stripped of WBO welterweight title
Mayweather claimed the first WBO title of his career when a wide
points verdict against Pacquiao took his unbeaten record to 48-0.
Boxing's pound-for-pound king later hinted at relinquishing one or more of his multiple belts ahead of one final fight in September this year, only to object when the WBO sanctioned a contest for its vacant title between Timothy Bradley and Jesse Vargas.
The organisation relented and gave Mayweather a deadline to meet its criteria for a champion, including making a payment of $200,000 from his Pacquiao purse and giving up his WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles.Neither ultimatum has been met, according to a statement which said: "The WBO World Championship Committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr Floyd Mayweather Jr as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title."
